My Travel Blog – Adventures in Jordan

September 2017 I was fortunate to be selected to participate on an 8-day G Adventures familiarization trip to Jordan. As a person who works within the travel industry, I am always asked where is your favourite destination that I have visited, and I have to say Jordan is now one of those countries that is on the top of my list.

I have found that most people have the perception travelling into the Middle East is not safe especially as a tourist coming from a Western nation. My entire time while I was in the Jordan, I felt completely safe and welcome as a tourist. Upon arrival Customs and Immigration was efficient and went smoothly. Canadians do require an entry VISA for Jordan, however, this is easily obtained upon arrival at the Jordanian airport and I had no issues or problems obtaining my tourist permit on arrival.

When thinking of Jordan and ancient sites most people instantly think of Petra and Petra is an absolute must see, however, what surprised me the most were the amount of ancient Roman ruins throughout the county. No visit to Jordan would be complete without visiting the ancient Roman ruins of Jerash. Jordan boasts some of the best-preserved Roman ruins that are equal or better to any ancient site that you will traditionally visit in Italy, Greece or Turkey.

The absolute highlight for myself on this trip was our visit to the Wadi rum desert. Our day started at 5am where we started with a morning hot air balloon ride down the valley of the Wadi Rum desert. I have never felt anything so peaceful and at the same time exhilarating as riding through the warm morning desert air reaching heights of up to 800m. After our balloon ride, we then headed over to a campground (I will call it glamping) where we spent the night in the desert. Our afternoon was spent on a Jeep safari followed up with a Camel ride through the desert. Absolutely an experience of a lifetime!

Jordan is an amazing country to visit full of incredible sites to visit, people with a beautiful culture, and delicious food. This is a country everyone needs to put on their bucket list!
